Job search

From “Jeff Croft”:http://jeffcroft.com/blog/archives/000255.php, currently looking for employment:

bq. Seriously…they want you to be a designer, animator, illustrator, programmer, system administrator, and DBA. And what’s more, they’re willing to pay $35,000 – $40,000 a year! Hang on while I do some cartwheels.

Granted, a lot of us can do all of these things. I’ve done my share of systems administration and scripting, and I know plenty of you could pull off most of these requirements as well. But should we? And do we want to?

He could not be more right. I, too, have been checking out postings on Monster.com, and I have been simply amazed at the ridiculous list of “required” skills. Certainly, as Jeff mentioned, I can do most of these things, but I am not masterful with regards to every piece of software. Sheesh…

Hopefully, I can find a company with more realistic expectations (Jeff, too).

They aren’t really trying to hire someone…. the low pay gives it away. What they did, is hired someone a ways back temporariliy at a very low rate. Then they took his skills inventory, and made a job posting on monster… Its an easy way to comply with EEOC regs and viasa requirements, as no one else will have that exact skill set, nor apply for such a low rate of pay.

Well, I for one would not apply to such a low paying position, but that is interesting that they would post something like that just for compliance issues.
